10.30 to 16.00
Chemistry Teaching Laboratory
The Oxford Chemistry Information Day will take place on Friday 20th September 2019 from 10.30 to 16.00 in the Chemistry Teaching Laboratory, off Mansfield Road. You don't need to book to attend this Open Day. Please note that the day's activities are split between two locations, about 3 minutes' walk apart.
At 11.30 and 14.15 there will be an informal talk in the Main Lecture Theatre in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road (with the opportunity for you to ask questions), by a College Tutor, which will cover a range of topics, including course structure, practical and tutorial work, the research year, applications, interviews and choice of College.
You won't need to spend the whole day in the chemistry department, so you can also attend a College Open Day, and this is strongly recommended.
All Oxford Colleges that offer places to chemistry undergraduates will be open on either or both of these days. If you are thinking of applying to Oxford, you will find it helpful to visit a College as well as the Chemistry Department. Most College events do not require advanced bookings but do check at College Open Days (which are listed here)
There will be frequent tours through-out the day. Tours typically take 30 to 45 minutes. Since access is secured by a swipe card system it is not possible to enter the research areas without a guide. You will be taken to the Chemistry Research Laboratory, which is one of the most modern and impressive University Chemistry research facilities in the world. Guided tours of the Department will depart from the Chemistry Teaching Lab.
You can take a virtual tour of the CRL here
There will be a talk by a College Tutor from 11.30-12.15 and from 14.15-15.00. The talk will cover a range of topics, including the structure of the chemistry course, applications to Oxford, interviews, conditional offers, etc. A question and answer session will follow.
The talks in the morning and afternoon will cover the same material.
